One of the biggest challenges to recovery is accessing decent, safe, and affordable housing.  For more than 20 years, Community Support Services has actively developed housing or housing opportunities for persons with mental illnesses.  Since 2014, Community Support Services has partnered with AMHA, National Church Residences, and Testa Companies to develop 120 units of Permanent Supportive Housing for persons with mental illness.  In June 2016, the agency and development partners were awarded tax credits for a new project, Stoney Pointe.  While the project will feature many of the same partners including AMHA and National Church Residences, Stoney Pointe will welcome a new developer and co-owner, Tober Development.

Stoney Pointe will be located on Vernon Odom Blvd near the intersection of Wooster and Vernon Odom Blvd.  The project will feature 68 one-bedroom apartments.  Over 50% of the apartments will be dedicated to individuals who are homeless.    Supportive services will be available on-site; however, tennants are not required to participate in services.  To encourage a safe living environment, the building with have 24/7 stafing.   Stoney Pointe will feature a number of unique elements designed to foster and promote recovery including a computer lab, a great room, a community pantry, a teaching kitchen, a courtyard, bicycle storage, and group meeting space. There will be a particular emphasis on housing retention and employment services.

Stoney Pointe is currently scheduled to break ground in the spring of 2017 with an anticipated opening in the summer of 2018.  The individual units will be approximately 600 square feet featuring a contemporary design including radiant floor heating and polished concrete floors.  The exterior of the building will be structural brick creating a durable yet aesthetically pleasing building.

Terry Dalton, President/CEO of Community Support Services stated, "As stable housing is an important part of recovery, Community Support Services is extremely excited 68 individuals will find a new place to call home."
